guacamoledinosaur:

In celebration of the hottest day of the summer yet—reportedly a high of 97 degrees—we hit Lake Washington in the kayaks! As a member of the Washington Kayak Club, Steve was able to get myself, Lara, Anna & Nicole free kayaks for the afternoon. We paddled about the open waters then headed towards the Arboretum as the sun set.

Ending the night with beers on our porch concludes a perfect summer day.

It’s been a while since I’ve updated this. Sorry, family.

I’ve been working about 20hrs/week for Sub Pop. My job is to find and archive press concerning our artists from basically every source imaginable. Otherwise, I’m sending out of Press Kits out to tons of people. It’s kind of busy-worky, but it’s pretty fun and I work hard when I’m there. Everyone in the office is very very nice. It’s a great work environment and I’m enjoying it a lot.

Outside of work, I’ve been applying for jobs, exploring, working on music, and spending time with my lovely roommates. Also, eating mini 25¢ avocados like it’s my job. I’ve seen a lot of movies. Including the new Twilight, which my roommates prepared me for by performing an hour-long reenactment of the second film. My friend, Ed, from Philadelphia visited Friday through Saturday. We had a ton of fun exploring Pioneer Square. We stumbled upon a nice little waterfall garden and a testla coil.

My roommate threw her boyfriend a going-away party Friday night, and it was really fun. We went and ate at some drive-in fast food place, Dicks, mentioned in a Sir Mix-a-lot song. Fun fact?

I’ve settled in to my house. I live with 8 girls, all of whom are outrageously, unbelievably sweet, helpful, and fun.

Saturday, my first night here, they took me out to get Chinese food and later we went to a friend’s house show. It was really fun and reminded me a lot of Philly. Also, people were drinking Rainier beer, of Twilight fame sooo….be jealous.

Yesterday, I went exploring in Capitol Hill, the more “hip,” trendy, (and extremely flamboyant) district of Seattle. I got a really great meal, even better coffee, and the BEST ice cream. I had a sundae with dark chocolate ice cream, sea salt, homemade whipped cream, and bergamot infused olive oil. I can see myself hanging out there quite a bit…

Today, I started my job with Sub Pop Records. My boss is really chill and great. We probably high-fived ten times throughout the day. The office is so fun. Some highlights:

  • Gold records (Nirvana, Postal Service, Garden State ST) hanging on the bathroom walls.
  • The “Zen Room”…a big room with a mattress and pillows on the floor. And nothing more.
  • The art/promo department, where more desirable posters, CDs, and t-shirts exist than I could have ever imagined.
  • Jon Poneman (co-founder of Sub Pop/the coolest dude EVER) has an office right across from mine. Very intimidating and very exciting.

Despite the weather, which I’m promised will improve come July, and despite missing everyone dearly, Seattle is an absolute blast so far.
